English longcase clock c.1800 Movement signed ‘Charles Eaves, Coventry’. Late Georgian styling of elegant proportions.
The case of oak with mahogany veneers and cross-banding to hood, trunk and base. Raised bracket plinth. Canted fluted corners to trunk with polished capitals. The hood with swan-neck pediment with brass rosettes and ball-and-eagle finial.
Eight-day weight-driven movement, striking the full hours on a bell. Fine second-period painted dial with seconds and calendar bits, Arabic chapter; fan-and-flower corner paintings with silver-leaf detail and a rural idyll in the arch featuring a ‘lady’ with a rake. Blued steel hands.
